See that? I'm the van, life is the forklift (that's what that thing is, right?), and the crusher is time. See how life holds me in there so I'll be crushed instead of escaping? Yep, that's just about right.
Anyway, I took 4 generations of our family to Hobby Lobby this week. Mother, Baby R's mommy, Baby R, Baby M, and myself. All of us. At the same time. With Mother and her oxygen and walker thingy and all the baby and toddler paraphernalia. What was I thinking?
Don't get me wrong. We had fun. I know we did because we were dying laughing the whole time. But I think that was because we knew the thinking could have been better.
Just getting everybody and all their gear took what seemed like a half hour. Once in the car things were great as in nice and calm. But then we arrived and had to get out of the car with all the people and the things. Then there was the inside the store part. That's where things got interesting.
I had a list. I had no time to check it. Baby M was with me and in the cart. Baby R was in his stroller and with his mommy. We left Mother to her own devices because she's fine to do her own thing. I"m not sure if she enjoyed being at the craft store or laughing at us more but she did enjoy herself. Immensely. So it was probably at our expense.
So we're inside and we're good. Baby M points to things and I give them to her because that's what grandma's who want quiet toddlers do. I didn't even care if I had to buy every single thing she wanted. She was happy. Until she wasn't.
Baby M gets bored being in the buggy and I failed to bring snacks or water which I know she likes because her mommy gives her a peach when they go to the grocery store and Baby M eats that while they shop but NEWS FLASH they don't sell edible peaches in Hobby Lobby and the little pretties weren't working anymore so I did what any good grandmother would do and switched babies with Baby R's mommy. Because Baby R was sleeping and Baby M wasn't.
We put Baby M in the stroller and Baby R in my buggy. That worked out great until Baby M got bored. So Baby R's mommy, the daughter of mine who will forever be BFFs with her inner child, decided to run little spurts up and down the aisles with Baby M and the stroller which Baby M loved although I can't figure out how that was a good lesson to teach but we all appreciate a content toddler so we do what we have to. And that worked until Baby M decided she wanted Grandma but not Grandma's buggy. Baby M is not a baby anymore but a heavy toddler.
Grandma headed for the checkout and may have uttered something to like, "Whoever is not in the car by the time I get there will be staying at Hobby Lobby."
We loaded everything and everybody up and headed home. I think we were gone for about an hour. If that. It seemed like the whole day.
Seriously Y'all, we did have fun and enjoyed talking about how much easier this sort of outing was when there were only 3 generations going because Mother and I were younger then but we laughed and laughed and we're still laughing about it here at the end of the week.
Mother and I even laughed about it the next day when she and I returned to Hobby Lobby to actually purchase the items on our list.
And guess what? We still forgot some things.
Pictures? Ha! Who had time for taking pictures?!
