Easter Recap

We've had an exciting couple of days, Y'all between a birthday, Easter, April Fools' and an engagement all on the same day and looking at Nashville wedding venues yesterday and having Bug all day and every day this week because school is closed for spring break the Easter post was about to bite the dust.

BUT, I'm not dead yet so here you go! Oh, fair warning: there are a ton of pictures.

First time dying eggs.

A bow tie and suspenders, the perfect outfit.

Speaking of the perfect outfit. Who doesn't love a chiffon dress with cowboy boots?
The story is they were looking for a pair of white sandals but someone picked up those boots and refused to leave the store without them. What can I say?
She knew which shoes would work best.
Little man decided he wanted something from Tucker's basket.

How. Sinkin'. Cute.

Bug is all about dogs and ducks so I had to have this ducky
bubble shooter for her basket. It was a big hit!

Once we got the littles on the blanket, the paparazzi showed up.

Little man wanted to eat the bubbles. Bug complied.

These are Bug's other grandparents and Y'all, they are
so wonderful! We LOVE them so much and we all
try to get together as often as we can.

Bug and TeacherDaughter enjoying the bubbles.
A few black and whites because I love black and whites.

Bug's family.

Little Man's family.
We sure missed these two.

But they were busy in Nashville getting engaged. Which you can read about HERE if you missed it.

There's a whole lot of happy going on around here!

Empty Nest Easter

When you live in an empty nest (or empty except for one lingerer) you tend to overlook some holidays. Or, at least I do. This only started happening when the lovelies grew up and moved out on their own. Not so much when they went off to college because they still came home and expected the whole shebang but after college was over, x4, I slowed down on what I term the lesser holidays. Not because they are lesser in meaning per se but more because they are lesser in terms of family coming together.

Peter Rabbit came for dinner. On a couple of tea sets.
For example, no one likes to miss Christmas around here and if I had my way Thanksgiving would be included in this. But Easter, July 4th and the like take a backseat as far as me going all out decorating and preparing a huge family meal.

Here's the little one. Maybe next year we'll have tea with Baby M.
But then I thought, why should I not prepare food on these 'lesser' holidays? Wouldn't that bring my independent-minded daughters and their SOs back into the nest for a minute? You know, long enough to enjoy but not long enough to be considered roomies.

I made food! Not a ridiculous amount, but I made it.
And there was key lime pie for dessert.

Plus, there is a granddaughter now and she should know the fun of our family gatherings. Actually, if we expose her to them now she won't be frightened as she gets older because we are a fun-loving, crazy bunch and I wouldn't change us one little bit.

All that being said, we gathered for Easter dinner this year. It was Baby M's first Easter and I think, when she looks back at family photos, she needs to see her 'first' holiday gatherings whether she was old enough to understand the concept or not.

And I enjoy having everyone over. It's good to laugh and share and just have a good time with those you love.

These two were MIA and I missed them so much!

But they'll be here this summer for Baby M's first birthday and the baby shower for this auntie who's expecting my first GRANDSON in August.

Yep. There's going to be a boy up in here. And none of us quite know what to do about that. But we'll certainly find out in August. We are all excited that Baby M will have a cousin so very close in age and it's pretty cool to have one of each.

Yes, he already has a name but he'll be known as Baby R here on Empty Nest. Y'all know my empty nest, right? The one that's beginning to be overflowing with grandbabies?

Ok moms/grandmas of boys, is there really any difference in what you do other than love them to pieces?

Easter Production

Some of you might remember our nephew and his sweet family who had the little one in November--

Every year, their church puts on a huge production for Easter- a passion play, if you will.

Our nephew played the role of Jesus again this year. And his new baby played baby Jesus!

Anyway, I thought y'all might enjoy seeing some pictures from the production.

I did not take these photos, I just borrowed them from the nephew's facebook page. There are more pictures at the church's page right here.

Those are not my nephew and his wife. But that IS their baby in his role as the baby Jesus.

That's the nephew as Jesus as the last supper.

I hope y'all are having a wonderful Easter weekend surrounded by family and friends!

The Week in the Proverbial Nutshell

The weekend is all but over.  The lovelies have all returned to their outofthenest lives.  And here we sit...again...which means that it must be time for--- My Week in a

The biggest mistake of the week occurred on Wednesday.  It all started when I foolishly downloaded Angry Birds on my phone and began playing.  I can sum this up in one word:  ADDICTED.  Stupid game.

The college lovelies came for their usual Wednesday night home cooked dinner.  I almost forgot about them what with all the Easter prep shopping I had to do---yes, they STILL get Easter baskets.  They ended up having a veggie night but they loved it, so all was not lost!

When all the lovelies arrived, I was in 'forced-good-mood' mode because of a sinus attack.  However, BestSonInLawEVER came right in, gave me an adjustment (don't worry, he's a chiropractor) which immediately allieveated my headache and shot my mood straight into complete elation!  It's just amazing what a simple adjustment can do for one's aches and pains...and mood!

The lovelies spent a good portion of Saturday at the beach- where Deanie let someone put this on her back:

In case you can't tell (I don't know how to enlarge pix from facebook) that is a freaking ball python that some FOOL brought out to the beach.  All I have to say is EWWWWW, EWWWWW, EWWWWW, and EWWWWW!!!  I wouldn't have let that thing anywhere near me.  EWWWWW.

Easter dinner was Yummy!  I served ham, turkey, broccoli casserole, squash casserole, deviled eggs (with olives, of course), spinach quiche, whole wheat yeast rolls, sugar free cheesecake with fresh strawberries and Mimi (my mother) brought grandchild requested mac and cheese casserole and her orange salad (it's of the congealed sort and really tasty).

A few pictures:

Our family cannot gather without playing games!

I bought them purses this year with the SC Palmetto Tree and Cresent moon symbols on them.  BestSonInLawEVER and Tucker got baskets.

Tucker looks forward to his Easter basket all year...

he really gets into it.  That's DoodleBug and Mimi looking on.

(left to right) Birdie, BestSonInLawEVER, Deanie, Breezy, DoodleBug (holding Tucky), Aunt Betty...and, between DoodleBug and Aunt Betty is Mimi- who hates having her picture taken.

Our four lovelies- (left to right) DoodleBug, Birdie, Deanie, Breezy

DoodleBug and Breezy decided to entertain us with their version of the Easter story.

These are two wild and crazy gals!

DoodleBug with Tucker.
Hope your Easter weekend was as wonderful, fun, silly, and family filled as ours was!
