The May Edition of the Daybook

I always enjoy the Daybook. But I always seem to forget to do one! Not this month.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...I see students arriving at school. Ponytails whipping from side to side; bookbags bouncing up and down; flowers and assorted goodies for the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week; a few noses pressed up against the window, peeking in to wave 'Good Morning'.

I am thinking...that I'd really rather not be at school today. Mostly because I awoke at 3:40 this morning and the coffee maker stopped working. So, lack of sleep and no coffee...beware 8:00 class.

I am thankful...for positivity. And quiet. Whenever and wherever I can get them.

In the kitchen...the coffee maker broke. This is NOT good news because my coffee takes the edge off my mornings and makes smiling so much easier. Again, beware 8:00 class.

I am wearing...my Relay for Life t-shirt because we have Relay for Life tonight. Which will be interesting after a day without coffee. Oh, I'm wearing pants too. LOL Black capris.

I am creating...nothing. Not a darn thing. But I did just create graduation announcements for DoodleBug's college graduation next weekend because, seriously, they wanted over $100 for only 25 announcements. We send out way more than that. So, I made them myself. Just like I did for the other lovelies since their colleges wanted too much money too. I'm pretty sure they have enough of my money- even when your daughters go to college on scholarships, there's always more money to be spent. But not on graduation announcements. LOL Happy Mother's Day to me!

I am going...to Relay for Life tonight. Our school is going to have a tent up out there with a potluck supper and loads of fun!

I am wondering...about Global Warming and whether or not it really is repsonsible for the change in weather patterns and the changes we've seen in the seasons. I'm leaning towards, Yes. It's real.

I am reading...American Story. Love the premise. Not fond of his writing style.

I am hoping...that I find my determination and do something that needs to be done.

I am looking forward to...summer break. Thaaat's right. This is really me and I did say SUMMER. Even though I hate the heat, I am so looking forward to not having to go to school every freaking day of the week. Of course, y'all know that, as soon as summer arrives, I'll be complaining about the heat and missing my students. Sigh.

I am learning...how to be a Google Guide to help our school transition to Gmail.

Around the house...things are a mess. It's interesting when one of the little birdies flies back into the nest. Clutter springs up all around and you have to vacuum every other day instead of once a week. And the dishes? Good grief.

I am pondering...something that just cannot be shared at this time.

A favorite quote for today..."It's Friday! Get Your Grin On!"

One of my favorite things...not just one thing but I truly love the people I work with. They are the kindest, most loving, helpful, caring people I've ever known. And humor? Oh yeah, they've got humor!

A few plans for the rest of the week...enjoying the weekend by moving ONLY if the spirit moves me!

A peek into my day...but with all seats filled with students. All. Day. Long.

Have a lovely weekend, y'all!

Dogs, Squirrels and The Daybook

I just love participating in The Simple Woman's Daybook! Y'all should really check it out! There's a giveaway going on too! Peggy also has 2 brand new blogs-- The Simple Woman's Creative Journal and The Simple Woman's Kitchen and Garden that you can link up to as well!

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...the squirrels are giving the dogs a fit. Which leads to the dogs giving me a fit because I am constantly having to stop everything to let them out, and then let them back in. Then I repeat this process about 498,566 times JUST IN THE MORNING.
I am thinking...that maybe squirrels aren't as cute as I once thought.

I am thankful...for getting a heads up about an opening at the elementary school the lovelies attended and for getting the job.

In the kitchen...people (read: the husband) keep leaving their dirty dishes for me to wash. Who says there's less cleaning in an empty nest?

I am wearing...my workout clothes because I have yet to do my Synergy workout for the day. Though I did take the dogs for a walk. Where they pulled me all over the trail because they were trying to chase squirrels.

I am creating...knitted squares to be put together in a quilt. We'll see how this goes since most things look great in my head but rarely do the results even remotely resemble what was in my head.

I am going...no where. Because it's too hot outside.

I am wondering...when, exactly, cooler temps are going to arrive.

I am reading...THAT book. And I will post about it at some point.

I am hoping...and praying for a long, chilly fall and cold winter!

I am looking forward to...a long, chilly fall and cold winter!
I am learning...that I am quite good at skimming through THOSE parts in THAT book.

Around the house...there is dog hair everywhere. I vacuum at least twice every day but there's still dog hair all over the place. I keep telling the lovelies that I love it when they come home but no more big, shedding dogs. And every time they come, there's a big shedding dog. Tucker is little. And he doesn't shed.

The shedder:

The non-shedder:

I am pondering...how to keep the squirrels out of my yard.

A favorite quote for today..."A squirrel is just a rat in a cuter outfit."

One of my favorite things...is not vacuuming up dog hair. Though I have to do it at least twice a day. (Did I already mention that?)
A few plans for the rest of the week: praying for a long, chilly fall and cold winter (SERIOUSLY- several of us are going to pray together on Friday at noon [eastern time] if y'all would like to join us!); finishing up THAT book; letting the dogs out...and then back in...and repeating all day/every day.

A peek into my day...Here's Tucker (my dog who does NOT shed) sitting on my desk where he can look out the window at the squirrels. See that look on his face? "PLEASE, can I go out and bark at the squirrels?"

What's on your agenda today?

Sunday Daybook

This is a fun way to end the weekend! Just head over to Peggy's by clicking the button below and join in the fun!

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...the rain has slacked off for now. It's been such a perfect weekend filled with rain but none of those nasty storms that have wrecked havoc with so many. One thing I am so grateful for is that the severity of most storms dissipates by the time they reach us. I so enjoy an exciting storm and rainy days but NOT storms that fuel fear and bring destruction.

I am thinking...about the lovelies coming home on the 14th! They will all be here at the same time- that's quite a feat these days! I can hardly wait!

I am thankful...for so many things but, for the daybook, I'll just say my family, my home, my sweet little dog.

In the kitchen...there is a carrot cake I made yesterday. It's completely from scratch, organic, gluten free...and the only sweetener in the cake and the frosting is honey. All this healthy cooking has been such a learning experience and I'm loving it--even all the work that goes into it!

I am wearing...my workout clothes. I thought we were going to run this morning but the rain had other plans. We'll just go out later. And there's that evil little workout 30 Day Shred I have yet to do today.

I am creating...a gratitude scrapbook. It's coming right along and has been a fun project!

I am going...to stay in the house today and make a chicken Brunswick stew.

I am wondering...how in the world some of the people in this town EVER got a license to drive. Idiots.

I am reading...the ugly american.

I am hoping...that I am able to contain myself until March 14.

I am looking forward to...all four of the lovelies coming home on the 14th! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

I am learning...more and more about keeping us healthy with nutrition and new (to us) daily practices.

Around the house...there are signs that my efforts at organizing are paying off! AND, it's just chilly enough that I got to turn the little heater on!

I am pondering...anything and everything positive.

A favorite quote for today...is from a song I love to hear Diana Krall sing--

Here's how to be an agreeable chap
Love me and leave me in luxury's lap
Hop when I holler skip when I snap
When I say 'do it' jump to it

One of my favorite things...is having the nest filled with the lovelies and their boytoys! Which will happen on the 14th!

A few plans for the rest of the week: complete a few little projects; get out in the back yard and get some garden prep started; decide on menu for the lovelies being home-that's going to be a lot of 'makemyfavoritepleasemom' recipes to fit into a few days- especially since the boys have favorites now too!

A peek into my day...instead of a picture, how about a video of the song I mentioned? Just imagine a rainy low-country day, sitting at the desk looking out the window at the raindrops and listening to a little Diana Krall.

Hope your Sunday is relaxing!

The Simple Woman's Day Book Entry...and One More Thing

This is a fun way to start the weekend! Just head over to Peggy's by clicking the button below and join in the fun!

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...the sun is shining brightly and the birds are eating at the feeders. They look all fluffed up from the cold and the wind.

I am thinking...that I am not a fan of being sick. What usually happens to me in October happened this week because of the waytowarmforJanuary temps.

I am thankful...for the cold weather!Though I doubt I'd be saying that if I lived in, say...Minnesota, for instance.

In the kitchen...there is a mess and I really need to get in there and clean it up. Probably not going to happen. How does it get so messy anyway when only two people and one little dog live here? Oh, wait. One of the people is a male. :)

I am wearing...my workout clothes and a hoodie. It's cold in here.

I am creating...cookbooks for each of the lovelies. I found these neat-o (yes, I just used the word 'neat-o') scrap/cookbooks at Michael's ONSALE just before Christmas and I got one for each of the lovelies. I gave them to the lovelies for Christmas but they had to give them back so I could put recipes in there for them. I am filling the books with all our family recipes and all the things I've learned so far about going gluten free. I am putting the recipes in as written originally and then, at the bottom, writing how to make them in a healthier, gluten free, sugar free, lower calorie way.And I'm being very specific. One of them isn't even sure how to boil a chicken.

I am going...NOWHERE. I mean it.

I am wondering...whether or not we'll get lucky enough to have that rare to the low-country snowfall this year.

I am reading...The Psychology of Everyday Things.

I am hoping...that we get that rare to the low-country snowfall this year.

I am looking forward to...that rare to the low-country snowfall this year. IF we get it.

I am learning...something every day. For example, today I learned that Netflix only gives decent choices on independent films sometimes. Today is not one of those times. AND 1/4 cup of dried cranberries has 96 freaking calories in it. WTH?!

Around the house...it's very quiet. And it's been that way since everyone left after the holidays.Until the husband gets home from work. Then you'd think there was a party going on. A noise party. :)

I am pondering...if pro is the opposite of con, is progress the opposite of congress?

A favorite quote for today..."The light made the snowballs look yellow. At least I hoped that was the cause."

One of my favorite things...about winter is the hope for all that snow that we are so rarely allowed the pleasure of enjoying here in the low-country.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Work on the cookbooks; find this year's patterns for the knitted gifts for Christmas and start those now so I don't get behind thinking I can do this, no problem; organize...

A peek into my day...

See Tucker in the lower right hand corner? I had to move that book so he could get in the chair. He's much happier now. Everything had to be moved to the dining table. My desk is just to small to handle it. Mainly because Tucker likes to sit on the left side of the desk and look out the window for squirrels. I think our lives may be ruled by a little ten pound pooch.

I am also going to link up with FRIENDSHIP FRIDAY, a new blog hop from Create With Joy.
