Thursday's Faves

Thursday means it's time for Thursday's Favorite Things over at Katherine's Corner!

And guess who's co-hosting?!

ME!

How much fun is this?! Meeting new friends, visiting with old friends--it's a friend kind of hop!

One of my favorite things to do is READ. Sometimes, I won't get one darn thing done during a day other than read a book. It's like a sickness. A delightfully wonderful sickness.

Sometimes, I might have two or three books going (in different rooms) at the same time.

I love to read.

I just finished reading a memoir by Lois Roelofs called CARING LESSONS.

Some of you might have figured out that I enjoy reading memoirs. I like to hear about other people's lives and learning about their time periods, laughing at their funny stories, gasping with disbelief at things they have experienced, etc.

One of the most interesting things about this book is hearing about the field of nursing. All the study, hours, time, bloodsweatandtears that go into obtaining a nursing degree. But, even more than that, what makes a nurse.

Lois discusses how she learned that nursing is more than performing procedures. It's so much more.

"...it's not necessarily just what we say to people, but how we act: how we listen, how we encourage, how we empathize, and how we show respect..." (from Caring Lessons page 115).

Her thirst for knowledge was fueled by Lois' desire to serve others. The more she knew, the better able she was to help.

This book could have been about my BFF- her life parallels Lois' in a way. They both have remained true to their upbringing to this very day; they are always improving themselves in an effort to better help others; always putting everyone ahead of themselves...

I found Caring Lessons to be a good read!

If you'd like to read Caring Lessons or have a nurse in your family or circle of friends, I've got good news! Lois is giving away a copy to one lucky reader.

WAIT! There's more! I'm going to pass along my copy too!

All you have to do is leave me a comment that you'd like to have a copy and I'll let that random thingy pick the winning numbers! SIMPLE!

Thursday's Faves and American Idol

Thursday means it's time for Thursday's Favorite Things over at Katherine's Corner!

I don't usually watch television programs like American Idol. They just aren't my favorite things. One of the main reasons I don't appreciate these types of shows is that I don't believe the general public votes according to talent. Which is what I thought the show was supposed to be about in the first place.

However, this season, I am keeping a close eye on one young lady on the show.

DoodleBug and Gibbsterrific actually know ELISE TESTONE. She's originally from NJ but lives in Mount Pleasant (where we live...pretty sure she's been here for about 8 years or so now) and used to be the singer for Gibbsterrific's ex boyfriend's band (that was a mouthful). So we are sort of watching and hoping good things for Elise.

Anyway, DoodleBug and I decided that I should ask y'all to vote for Elise if you watch the show and don't have a favorite yet!

She really does have talent. And that's what it's all about!

Here's last night's performance- I think y'all will see why we love her!
