Distraction

I wish I had written all my A-Z Challenge posts pre-April but I didn't so I find myself running behind every day grasping for words to match the letter of the day. This doesn't stop me from participating but it does present a challenge to the challenge. Ha!

Today's letter is D and I thought of the obvious choice for me which would be D is for daughters but when you blog and you have four daughters everyone pretty much knows how much you adore your daughters and how you think daughters are the best of the choices of kids you can have so I nearly drove myself nuts trying to think of another D word when BAM! one presented itself to me.

In the movie, CHRISTOPHER ROBIN, Christopher Robin told Pooh he couldn't be distracted so he needed Pooh to go home and I know this is part of the movie along with all the other parts because when Lula Mae is in the house you watch that movie which means I've seen it about a gazillion or so times over the last month. Anyway, Christopher Robin is so caught up in his day-to-day it has become his comfort zone and he's as good at making excuses for being so caught up in the rat-race he had forgotten the most important things as the rest of us. Anyway...

When one of your daughters is an athletic trainer and has to be somewhere at 7:00 AM sharp to teach a CPR class and everyone decides it's not a good thing to awaken a toddler before 6:00 AM said toddler comes to Amma's house for the night. And when that toddler is given the choice between going to school and staying at Amma's house for the day and chooses Amma's house a distraction is created.

D is for distraction of the most delightful sort.

It seems only yesterday this little distraction was born. Seriously. Yesterday.

Suddenly, she's talking like a grown-up, running all over the place so self-assured and sassy, problem-solving like a boss and sweeter than the sweetest honey in the whole world.

She loves to explore and is quite inquisitive. Talking is something she does non-stop but I can't say anything about that because she comes by it honestly.

She loves to eat at my house which tells me I'm doing that part of grandparenting right. And when you are chosen over school that also tells you you're grandparenting well because this kid LOVES her school.

I make her strawberries and Goldfish for snack---

She makes me corn juice---

She has her very own sense of style and let me say I love that her mommy lets her choose for herself.

This was my distraction today. This is why I'm late to the party.

At the end of the movie, Pooh says, "Yesterday, when it was tomorrow, it was too much day for me." That's exactly right Pooh. Stay in the present moment. And enjoy every little distraction that comes your way.

D is for distraction. Of the most delightful kind.

Cookies and a Toddler

I come up with ideas all the time. My brain hardly gets any rest from all the ideas that pop up inside of it ten gazillion times each day. Most of those ideas are silly and hold zero merits whatsoever but there are some that are worthy of trying out for size, those that I wish I'd never tried out for size, and those that turn out to be the best. idea. ever. the latter being the rarest. Anyway...

I decided I needed to bake cookies with Bug. She's two and smarter than that whip people always talk about plus she's always in the kitchen with her mommy so I figured it would be fun. I wasn't wrong!

She never even attempted to put her hands inside the bowl while the mixer was running.

Bug: I can touch it?
Me: Yes, you sure can touch it.
Bug: I touched it!
Me: Yes, you did!

Bug: I can eat it?
Me: Yes. Do you like it?
Bug: Yeah! I like it!

She certainly enjoyed eating the cookies after they came out of the oven. So did I. They were the best cookies I ever had.

We thought about saving some for later but where's the fun in that?

I now know that the fun I had in my grandmother's kitchen wasn't the best time for me. She must have enjoyed it, too because I've never had more fun baking cookies before. And I've baked a whole bunch of cookies over the years.

That cutie on the right is Bug's mommy.

Ah, granddaughters. Not that we would have excluded the grandson, he just wasn't in town that day. And he's ONE so...

How many of you love baking with your grandkids or loved baking with your kids when they were little?

Grandparenting is Grand

I could get all flowery and gushy but if you're a grandparent you already know what grandparenting is like and if you aren't your time will come so why do we need all that gush that's already been spouted here and on every other blog of a grandparent? Let's just get on with the good stuff. The photos!

When school is having a break while getting ready for the new school year, my sweet granddaughter and I get to spend some time together. We were so BUSY this week.

Bug (still working out a nickname I love) turned 2 last month and her sweet cousin will be turning 1 in another week. Since Puppy (still working out his nickname, too) LOVES balls, I decided to get him a big box full of beach balls so Bug and I worked on the project this week. Well, I worked on it while she played with it. I think it'll be a bit hit! Please notice her tee-shirt. "Wild Hair, Don't Care" and she doesn't.

One of my favorite things is chocolate milk and I happened to have a glass when Bug arrived one day.

Bug: "What's that?"
Me: "Chocolate milk."
Bug: "Have some?"
Me: "Sure! But don't tell your Mommy!"

I never got my glass of chocolate milk back. Which is fine because what grandkids want, grandmas give them. #amiright

When you want the dog to stay inside and play with you, you tell him. "Don't go outside, Tucker."

And you spend a good deal of time twirling and laughing. I think she needs one of those #twirlyskirts don't y'all?

The grandson was here over the weekend. He's been walking all over the place for a few weeks now and wow! what a difference in the amount of things he gets in to.

He loves knocking down towers I make with the big blocks.

Then again, he loves doing just about anything and yes that's a little sunburn on his little arms but that wasn't me. #justsayin #lol Hey, it matches his hair. Gosh, that #redhair, y'all!

Seriously, that boy will follow a ball anywhere or at least try to which often ends up in a self-inflicted predicament though this time he dodged the proverbial bullet.

We have the next birthday coming up Thursday and I'll be inundating the internet with pictures again next week!

Have a wonderful weekend, y'all!

Spring Break Grandma Style

A certain little face has been at my house all week because her school was closed for spring break so I might have tried to get a few pictures. Ha! Y'all know I went crazy. This little girl is all of 21 months old and makes me feel every single one of my own years. Today is our last day of spring break and I shall miss her terribly next week. Once I awaken from my recovery sleep. Ha!

Spring break, 2018

The number one thing I hoped for my grandkiddos was good health. Number two on the list is to be happy. Oh goodness, that childhood happiness is the best, isn't it?

Do y'all remember laughing at the seemingly slightest things with big hilarity?

And the constant jabbering. I usually tune most people out when they talk but when this little cutie talks, I listen because everything she shares is so interesting!

We've been outside a good bit this week having bubble parties, playing soccer, being cute...

Singing songs...

Scaling the fence (yep, she figured out how to get up there and back down all by herself because all by herself is just the way Bug prefers to do things)...

To play with the neighbor's doggies...

This little stinker has been all over the place this week. We've had big fun but this grandma is exhausted. The good kind.

Best. Spring. Break. EVER.

Stinker Face

Because, why not?

Y'all, this kid is going to be one year old in a little less than 3 months. She is ALWAYS busy. ALWAYS. I think she's even busy in her sleep.

She's also clever. We couldn't figure out why this toy had a button. She did. She pushes it on and off any time she wants to. We have yet to be able to turn it on or off.

You can certainly see the stinker in her eyes in this next one. And that little grin? That comes from my granddaddy and Baby M's mommy.

Her auntie and I decided to try and have a photo shoot but you can't get Baby M to be still EVER so here's what we got---

Never once did she look at the camera. And she was still enough for two whole pictures. Still cute though.

So we decided to follow her around and snap whatever we could. The faces of Baby M:

No photo shoot would be complete without a shot of pants on the baby. When you don't sit still long enough for people to put your pants back on after a diaper change, the people do the best they can. I'm going to put together a book one day called, Pants on the Baby filled with all the pictures we have of Baby M 'wearing' her pants in all sorts of ways. 😄

She's 9 months old, y'all and she is my heart.

Have a wonderful day!

She's Here!

Guess who made her appearance yesterday (Thursday) afternoon? Baby M!

Everyone, welcome my first grandchild, sweet Baby M. Of course, they immediately put a Clemson hat on her sweet little head--

The parents are very happy! And everyone is doing well!

These are from today. Who knew she would get even cuter overnight???

My thoughts? She's absolutely PERFECT!
